Need Likes? 7 Ways to Start Attracting Fans on Facebook Right Now

Facebook is the largest social networking website in the world, is your business missing out?

With over 1 BILLION active users, Facebook has become a powerful tool for businesses to spread the word about their services and products.

If you are not utilizing this powerful marketing tool for your home business, you are missing out on a huge audience.

To use Facebook for marketing your home business successfully, a Facebook page is the most suitable platform to interact from. Once a fan ‘likes’ your page, they will then receive updates from your page direct to their personal newsfeed.

Create a Facebook Page by clicking on Create a Page in the top right corner of this page. Ensure you fill in AS MUCH detail as possible about your business, services, products and contact details.

By now, hopefully it is common knowledge that businesses should not operate under a personal profile, mostly because, well Facebook says so; according to Facebook’s terms of service, “Profiles represent individuals and must be held under an individual name, while Pages allow an organization, business, celebrity, or band to maintain a professional presence on Facebook.”

Business owners who violate this rule can and do get shut down by Facebook and their friend list will vanish with it. In a future post we will explain how to legitimately use your Facebook personal profile to promote your business.

To get you started on the right track, here are 7 of our tried and true Facebook Page Optimization Tricks that we teach our team members to do right away.

Facebook for Home Business Owners

The need to leverage social media for business is a no-brainer at this point, but a company’s effectiveness on Facebook can be hampered if the page isn’t set up properly.

Once you have created your Page, filling out as much detailed information as you can, go through this checklist to optimize your page to start attracting new likes.

  1. Link your Facebook Personal Profile to your Business Page by adding a new Employer to your Work & Education settings. If you are linked to a blank community page, delete it and re-add it. Also make the pages you own public on your About tab – under Pages, click Edit and tick the box next to the page you wish to display on your profile. Now go to your Page and click Edit Page – More – Featured and add yourself as a Featured Page Admin.

  3. Grab your custom URL instead of having a heap of numbers after your page name. looks so much better than To get a custom URL, you will first need 25 fans. Once you have them, click Edit Page and select Page Address to edit your custom username. This can only be changed once so pick carefully!

  5. Make sure the URL to your website is displayed in the first 1 to 3 lines in your About box / Short Description which is directly under your Timeline image. If you can’t see it, change your business category until it comes up. This will make it easier for fans to find your website. This does not apply if your page is a Places page, whereby you will have your address displayed instead.

  7. “Like” other Facebook pages in your industry when you are using Facebook as your page, or select Like as My Page when you visit a page. Comment and like other pages status updates (as your FB page, not your personal profile) to get more exposure for your page. Sometimes local business pages open their wall up for self-promotion and you are able to post a link to your own page or website. Don’t ever do this without being asked first.

  9. Create a targeted Facebook advert and point it to your page, ideally to a custom landing tab so that you can build your list at the same time. By advertising your page to a targeted audience you will gain likes very quickly. Keep them engaged on your page by posting helpful and shareable content.

  11. Create custom tabs to run different strategies and promotions. There are many free applications available for this. Start by installing a free Static HTML app from WooBox and redirect clicks from your Facebook page to a page on your website. Or if you are feeling geeky, use the iFrame or HTML settings to create custom pages.

  13. Customize your Timeline cover image to utilize your Facebook real estate available to you. If professional looking graphics is beyond you, enlist the help of a graphic designer or check out Fiverr for cheap graphics gigs. LogoNerds is also an excellent resource for cheap graphics.
